WOW…hmmmm. Well…errrr. DIFFERENT!
I loved Discovery, loved Tron, but Daft Punk’s new album (do we still use that word?) will likely have to grow on me. After the first 4 listens, the one word that comes to mind regarding this work is “Soulful.” The album sounds like a throwback; something you have heard before BUT with an edgy, electronic twist. Certainly a departure from Tron yet I could pick up on some themes from the Discovery album.
The first released track is a real nice, catchy track. At points while tuning in to the complete work I lost interest and felt a little disconnected, if not bored. I found myself longing to fast forward to discover some of Daft’s more widely known innovative ear candy.
I need to give this a listen a few more times, but I still think Daft Punk is no punk. Other than that…any guesses on how I will be dressing for Halloween this year…………
